The good housewife

Today I did scones for the first time. It was a very easy recipe from an old Coles Winter Recipe booklet (That must be like a 6 years old free booklet I got from the supermarket while I was studying - Gee!! I do keep everything)

The ultra easy for dummy cooks below:

Pumpkin Scones

Roast 250g pumpkin pieces in the oven until soft (about 15 mins). Allow to cool, then mash together with 2 cups sifted self raising flour, 1 egg yolk, 1/2 cup caster sugar and 1 tbs butter. Knead the mixture to form a dough, it should be sticky to touch.

Now you can either:

Do like me - bake the scones in muffin tins or

Roll out the dough flat and cut out rounds using the rim of a cup dipped in flour. Place some scones on oven tray.

Bake in oven (180 C) for 15 minutes, they should sound hollow when tapped.

Et Voila! Bon Appetit

Internet is back

These days, I have been doing my own christmas ornaments.

1. I have been trying my hands at origami christmas trees like these ones

2. Been working with my fingers with air dry clay. I would like them to look smoother though.

3. I was happy to find out that there was also a Daiso in Bahrain. Got to love their price and the lovely japanese goodies.I purchased some more origami paper and air dry clay.

4. O oO I finally received my necklace displays, they are beautiful!!

Glimpse of Bahrain Fort

Arad Fort

Beautiful cushions - I wonder where I can get these, I saw them in the Bahrain National Musuem, it seems to be a local craft in Bahrain.

Internet Grmmmphhh##@@@

I don't want to stop blogging and no I'm not dead, it's just the internet in our block.

There are some nice posts coming on the places I visited during Eid Holidays. Now I hope that my photo driver will work then.

Quick - While internet's still working

Yes I arrived safely after a horrid flight and hours of waiting at Bahrain International Airport. I meant to write a whole post on these but internet has been up and down ever since I came back, the story is 'rancid' now.

The feedback from Awali Craft Fair is: Hmmmm

The 2 necklace displays I ordered from Etsy, never made it to Bahrain. So I had to use imagination to display my necklaces.

I must say that the crowd was 50% less than the American Women Association Craft Fair.
All in all it was encouraging because I sold 4 necklaces. I am very positive, this is my nature.

Me

With one of the new designs, don't know if I will be back in Bahrain for the Awali craft fair - I'm keeping fingers crossed.

On another note (totally out of context, I know): I really miss my husband :(

Mauritius

Statue of Paul & Virginie in the church courtyard

I arrived safely in Mauritius.

I am trying to make the most of my "forced" holidays, but I am blessed to spend time with my parents and friends.

I went to Pamplemousses today, a typical pittoresque village in Mauritius and I went crazy taking pictures of every single flower/plant I found in the garden

Below are some of the most interesting ones

I don't know the name of this fower but it looks very nice

Lotus flower, one of many in the garden ponds

Some of my favourite fruits

Jack fruit - I like them in curries, hmm delicious or fresh from the tree :)

Good Read

I recently purchased a book by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in our local second hand store.

It's been long since I've read a good book, and One Hundred Years of Solitude is more than good, it's thrilling, marvellous, unexpected.

I highly recommend this book. His storytelling is powerful and enticing. I like family sagas, the mystery, the humour, reference to nature - great imagination.

I have wanted to read a book from Gabriel Garcia Marquez since I watched Love in the time of Cholera. The critics were not great but I was drawn to the nature, foliage and ambiance of the movie. For those who've seen Javier Bardem in No Country for old men - you will probably find him weird in that one.

I like the reference to nature, foliage and jungle is aplenty

The houses and decor are beautiful

I like the 'costumes d'epoques' too

Done

Yesterday I have registered for my 2nd craft fair (Awali Craft Fair), which will be held at the same place - Bapco Club, Awali. I have a lot of work right now to add some new designs to the collection.

***

On a discovery note, I went to visit the Old Palace and Muharraq souk yesterday with some new friends. I must say that the Old Palace was very inspiring design wise. The lines and shapes and patterns present and typical of Arabian architecture proved to be very inspiring.
